Gold - The Golden Retriever
Considered the friendliest of their kind, the gold are natural fetchers used by the nobility for hunting. They have a yellow to golden color, long ears, a bushy tail, and adore swimming. They are friendly, so much that they make poor guards, and have been known to welcome rogues in the middle of the night while their companion slept. But that shouldn't fool anyone, they are great at tracking prey, and are the best swimmers amongst dogs, with some recorded as pulling prey thrice their size from water or swamps.
A competition happens yearly in the port city of Thamarya, where dozens of gold and their companions gather in the bay. Once all are gathered, ships on the bay release hundreds of red balls, which the dogs have to collect and give to their companions. The pair that picks the most balls wins.
Besides being a popular entertainment, it also serves to detect which of the golds are the best swimmers, who are then offered a job -along with their companion- on a ship since swimming dogs come in handy in the open seas.
