Fren - The French Bulldog
The fren is one of the two types of dogs created by magic. These creatures have flat faces and short muzzles, and their coats come in numerous colors but are generally brown, black, or gray. A village from the Elven Woodlands, whose adults were too busy with chores, needed company and guardians for their infants; although they had tried other dogs, none met the demands required. The villagers hired a deranged wizard, who, by combining the essences of various dogs and cats, created the fren and its larger cousin, the ingsh.
Many public nurseries have appeared throughout Eluan that employ these dogs. The structure consists of three to five adult guardians, and about a dozen fren who will always be beside the children, playing along and participating in the activities as if they were one of the kids. This system of nurseries follow a strict protocol, and must be acknowledged by the Fren Council of Lyria, the place where they originated.
